Scientists somewhat agree that approximately 3.5 billion years ago conditions were right in the Earth’s primordial stew that allowed certain bacteria to get their energy from the sun, thus beginning the process of evolution of life itself.

Photosynthesis, the process by which organic compounds are supplied most of the energy for life on Earth, is driven by the light from the sun. Atmospheric carbon dioxide and water together powered by sunlight provide Earth with energy in the form of glucose and oxygen. NO SUNLIGHT=NO LIFE.

Neither the Origin of Life nor the Origin of Man happens without sunlight. Whether you believe we evolved from blue-green bacteria in the sea or Adam and Eve in the garden, none of it is possible without the light of the sun.

Why weren’t Adam and Eve wearing clothes in the garden? They didn’t need them!

Fast forward a few billion years to present day: Plant and animal life is abundant on Earth, the seas are full of fish and humans are the most evolved species on the planet.

But, what has changed?

Humans have evolved from hunter/gatherers living off of the land to living in air-conditioned comfort, driving cars to work and back, and covering up our skin whenever we do venture outdoors (not necessarily a bad thing). The sun has come to be avoided and our Vitamin D levels, as a result, have dropped below beneficial levels. In 3.5 billion years we have gone from the sun being fundamental to our very existence to going days, weeks, months even years without exposing ourselves to the sun’s life-providing rays. Unfortunately, there are consequences to this!

How did this happen? Why did this happen?
